Sean Hannity Forums - The Real America?

“A “Whites Only” sign is not necessarily racist. It could be for economic reasons.” ~ Hannity Forums Member BillBrown

For eight years I’ve watched in amazement as right-wing radio talk show hosts like Sean Hannity and Mark Levin have grown their audiences into the millions. And while I first believed that these hosts were generally trying to be shocking, it’s obvious that even if they are, their audience isn’t.

Just a few years ago, in an effort to prove that Godwin’s Law could be invoked no matter what the topic, Hannity launched an online forum. At first glance, a new visitor to the forum might believe s/he’s stumbled upon an extraordinarily large MMORPG, in which the objective is to repeat the words heard during Hannity’s radio show as many times as possible. However, it soon becomes apparent that the members of the forum are serious (I was pissed when I realized I wouldn’t be awarded any points for my “Obama Hitler” thread, which had 20 pages of replies (from people agreeing with me) in less than 24 hours).

What makes the Hannity Forums particularly skewed, is their belief that they are now in exile since Obama won the election. Taking a direct line from the Democratic Underground forum, Hannity now announces his show at the start of each hour with, “Here we are, the conservative underground, conservatism in exile!” In exile? Really? Melodramatic much?

But his audience is eating it up. With more than 13.5 million adult listeners everyday, the Sean Hannity show is currently the 4th most-listened-to radio program in the United States. Which begs the question: Are these radio shows converting people into these nutcases, or are they simply giving them a place to congregate?

I joined that forum sometime last year and was promptly banned for being, and I quote, “an ignorant troll”. Apparently disagreeing with them makes you a troll. Remember, McCain got 58 million votes, so I think 13.5 million is just a fraction of the whack jobs.

Hannity is a fraud and his listeners are insane christian racists. That is all.

I have an account over there and it was hilarious about a month before the election. They were all 100% sure that Obama would lose and the McCain would win. And then Obama won and they started coming up with all kinds of conspiracy theories and they threw McCain under the bus. Here’s a conspiracy theory for you; Obama won because he got more votes.

Go read their archives from Oct. 2008 and compare them to today. HILARIOUS.

I’m from the Hannity forums and I kind of agree with you, but only kind of. It has really been embarassing to watch the change in the show’s tone since the election. The forum has also went down hill. I spend most of my time now on http://www.freerepublic.com

I use to really like Hannity becuz i thought he was a real america conservative and he supported McCain (who I also used to LOVE! I was even a member of TEAM McCAIN from his website). But then i started to learn more about what being a real conservative actually was and i learned that Hannity is no more conservative than Obama. When i stopped posting how much i loved McCain even tho i NEVER said nething bad about hannity the moderators banned me and said i could never come back.

@die - Way to represent the Hannity forum there buddy. Thanks for the comment. And umm… your IP is 84-75-102-82.dclient.hispeed.ch… you’re from Switzerland? Does Hannity’s show even air there?

And just so everyone knows, I posted a thread on the Hannity forums inviting them to read and respond to this article. It was located here and quickly deleted after 10 replies and 100 views: http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?t=1370641

I was also banned for the following reason:

You have been banned for the following reason:
    idiot troll

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Point proven. I was also told the thread would be removed because it was just a link to this site and I asked people to comment on it… And that’s different from this thread how? - http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?t=1370461

    Trix — March 17, 2009 #

    Subigo,

It doesn’t surprise me that they banned you and removed the thread at all. That forum is one of the biggest propaganda machines on the internet right now. They’re quick to pull the trigger and ban anyone that doesn’t agree with them 100%. It’s the same thing as when Hannity cuts the mic on callers that disagree with him.

Those people are THE REASON Obama was elected and they don’t even know it. Hell, they seriously think Palin has a chance in 2012, lol!

    Great site, I’ll be back.

  12. 12

    subigo — March 17, 2009 #

@trix - I totally agree. I was just hoping I would get a chance to hear their side… but I guess their side is pretty obvious. I really couldn’t have asked for a better response from them. It proved my point more than anything else could.

  13. 13

    atombomb — March 17, 2009 #

hahaha… Good to know they are still banning people left and right for disagreeing with them. It’s way too fucking easy to point out their hypocrisy!

I was banned from Hannity’s discussion as of April 5, 2009, for “attacking Rush Limbaugh”’s private life.I had no warning. That discussion board is full of posts attacking Barack Obama to the point of ad nauseum, including his personal life, i.e., suggestions that he is gay, that he was somehow involved in the murder of gays from his church, ………unbelieveable, but these folks are not banned?

    FireWatch — May 27, 2009 #

None of you were banned because you “don’t agree 100%” with Sean. We have tons of liberals who post viewpoints contrary to Sean Hannity’s on a regular basis. So many of you trolls get banned because you can’t behave yourselves and obey the rules of the forums. You would be allowed to stay and post if you were civil and actually READ THE RULES of the Hannity.com forums. Of course so many of you are in fact DU and DailyKOS Obamabot trolls so I don’t expect you to do anything but flame this post.

Oh Well…… You won’t be missed!

  20. 20

    obama_lib — May 27, 2009 #

I have never been treated as anything but an honored guest at the Hannity forum. My postings are pretty much 100% liberal and I have never been banned. I just stay civil and obey the rules. It’s really very easy.

  21. 21

    Clumpy — June 15, 2009 #

FireWatch, you and other moderators have proven that the “rules” of the forum are astoundingly flexible when dealing with people you’ve decided to ban. Your Orwellian insistence on removing any record of an individual’s posts or existence upon being banned also mean that nobody has any check or balance against you and every other mod doing whatever you damn well please.

The moderators don’t do their job (removing duplicate threads, stopping threads from derailing into reactionary, off-topic nonsense, encouraging debate), and instead ban anybody who expresses a cogent, thought-out opinion that isn’t some left or right-wing talking point. Any attempt at consistency or perspective is scrubbed to make room for pages upon pages of garbled nonsense.

I suppose if you don’t buy into global warming then you are one of those right wingers praying for an ice age. Liberals are just poisonous!

  23. 23

    Clumpy — June 17, 2009 #

Mr. Lange, my point exactly. (Not what you said but the “garbled nonsense” bit.)

  24. 24

    Clumpy — June 17, 2009 #

Let me be more specific. You and many others of your ilk are literally incapable of approaching an issue from an “argument/counterargument/analyze and adapt opinion” viewpoint. Without any regard for context or perspective your stimulus/response muscles spout random, vague sentences condemning liberals and points of view seen as “liberal” without ever really participating in a conversation.

I used to do this (having been a huge Hannity fan when I first got interested in politics in Junior High) but eventually moved beyond it. I began understanding that the truth of an issue was independent of its political origin and that it was less important to find an EXCUSE never to change my opinions and more important to really evaluate my own opinion and correct myself (sometimes adapting multiple times on a single issue) when I was mistaken.

Sean Hannity provides excuses for never changing a point of view, continuing to believe the fictions and excuses of a political stripe (in this case, neoconservatism). It’s a cartoony world where truth is absolute and can be determined by first arriving at an opinion and then building up a web of “facts” and one-liners to defend it. This behavior exists in every political stripe, but political pundits in particular are a black hole where no light or perspective can escape, and squawked condemnations are a suitable excuse for debate and true thought. This is the practice defended by Hannity’s moderators (more particularly since the introduction of pit bulls like FireWatch), and it can only be sustained through the methods described above, rules which change depending on the situation, and a complete and utter belief in their own infallibility.

    FireWatch — June 25, 2009 #

Maybe I should ban a liberal just because they are a liberal so you libturds can go apeshit. Yep…… I’ll do it today!

  29. 29

    Clumpy — June 27, 2009 #

Was that ever my contention, Rick? I know this isn’t a serious discussion, but you could at least try to respond to the concepts in one of these posts rather than just lashing out as usual.

You have no power here to whitewash the contentions and ideas of those who’ve grown impatient with you, so this may be a good time to learn the basics of good old-fashioned American discourse. Take the plunge, or retreat back to your tiny corner of the web where your word is law, time and space bend to your very will and you don’t have to explain yourself.

I like your double ellipsis, though (”… …”). I can’t exactly find any precedent in modern grammar but it may turn out to be useful.

You people really need to read up a little more about the law before you show your absolute ignorance. It is against the law to claim to be A REAL PERSON USING THEIR LEGAL NAME on the internet. This method has been used to steal identities etc. It is not illegal to claim to be “Strongman123″ from forum “BandwidthwasteXYZ”. I just love it when ignorant fools promote themselves to lawyer status on the internet.

    Idiots

    Emanuel Goldstein — July 12, 2009 #

Hi - I am the left-winged snitch over at Hannity. I am too fucking stupid to work, and I haven’t been laid in several years, so I simply eat bon-bons in my trailer, drink beer, and stay logged into Hannity in the TTTM forum, snitching on retreads and acting like a servent to the Moderators.

  56. 56

    Hoops — July 14, 2009 #

    LOL

I sincerely doubt that is actually Emmanuel Goldstein from the Hannity forums above. I will however point out that the real Emma posts on multiple forums under the same/similar user names with the same Marvin The Martian avatar. He seems to spend every moment of every day and night consta-posting left wing drivel. In my opinion he can’t possibly have a job. I think it is most likely that Emma is a welfare recipient and has never worked a day in his life. When you post hundreds of times each day at all hours of the day and night I don’t believe you are actually a job holding or productive member of society.

But I am certain that Emma pulls down the “D” lever like a good little lib-bot.

  57. 57

    Clumpy — July 22, 2009 #

“When you post hundreds of times each day at all hours of the day and night I don’t believe you are actually a job holding or productive member of society.”

I dunno - for every HF forumite with 20K+ posts there’s one less douchebag in line at the Wendy’s or trying to talk to me on the bus. And that goes double for the mods, who have to avoid any place where they don’t have some sort of immutable control.

I wonder how they discipline their children:

“Mommy says I’m a no good ignorant retread and I can’t play today.”

  58. 58

    Hoops — July 23, 2009 #

I fully expect moderators to have large numbers of postings. The very nature of being a moderator means you must spend a large amount of time on the forum.

The users that spend all hours of the day and night posting hundreds of times daily across multiple forums really have no life. Emmanual Goldstein is one of those consta-posters who has nothing better going on in their life.

    Absolute Welfare Recipient

  59. 59

    Clumpy — July 27, 2009 #

Most mod duties do not involve activities which raise their post counts. Look at the bland, friendly (and most importantly, short!) non sequiturs being thrown around in “Trivial Pursuits” and you’ll see where most of these power users are getting their posts.

Post count / average post quality = effective post count. Sorry, CID.

  60. 60

    Hoops — July 27, 2009 #

It would be very peculiar for a moderator to spend 20 hours+ per week on any forum and not post a large number of times. In fact it is considered poor mod ettiquette to just enforce rules without being a regular forum contributor. The thing that should catch your eye would be a mod with a small number of posts. THAT would raise my eyebrow.
